June 14 2010 Letter sent to West Island Gazette
To: West Island Gazette
Subject: Pollution- Riviere des Prairies
Last year I wrote to you concerning the persistent serious pollution of the Riviere des Prairiesr near Rive Boisee street. The problem has existed for many years, and I felt that it was time to do something about it.
Upon bringing up the situation at the Borough Council, I was assured that the problem was caused by crossed connections, and that the city would correct the problem.
You can imagine my disappointment when, upon regarding the results this year, it appears that the situation has become worse. During the last test (june 6 2010), the pollution was at a stratospheric 66000 coliform per 100 ml. Note that 1000 is considered polluted. Also, I noted that four other points in Pierrefonds-Roxboro were seriously contaminated.
It is clear that the borough has a serious problem when after every rainfall, the sewers overflow to this extent, since with the increasing development, the problem can only get worse in the future.
George Boutilier, Pierrefonds

Au sujet – Compte de taxes 2010
Lettre envoyée au Conseiller Beis février 2010
M. Beis,
M. Guy Billard

2009-11-22 – Letter sent to The Gazette
Dear Editor;
Montreal’s budget will be delayed until January – Gazette November 19 2009
So Montreal can delay its budget decisions until January 2010 to take the proper time to review the numbers.
Yet, when residents ask, and this 10 days prior to a council meeting, if their borough officials can provide any information at all on their upcoming budget and three year capital expenditure plan that council wants to approve at their first post-election council meeting, no such information is made available.
When asked why the rush to approve such large expenses so quickly after the election and why not share information with the public prior to council approving all plans and amounts, our mayor, now a member of Montreal’s executive committee answers, and this on the same day Mr. DeSousa told the Gazette Montreal’s budget would be delayed, that the election had taken up valuable time, that timelines were short and that this was required for Montreal’s budget.
The only information received was a 4-page excel printout on Budget numbers and this at the time of the council meeting. Also, though it was requested, there was never any information presented on the three year capital expenditure plan that was also approved by council. Residents are in the dark on this one.
Some members of council could not believe that residents dared to ask for such information. According to some council members, this is never done and residents need not worry since councilors were elected to make those decisions for us. (Recall that councillors and the mayor won with the votes of about 15% of elligible voters)
Councillors seemed to want to work with God though. Not only did they recite a prayer prior to the meeting but they also mentioned different versions of the name of our Lord after some of the budget questions were asked by the public.
Lewis Poulin – Pierrefonds-Roxboro

2009-10-22 Re: 3,771 Montreal kids injured by cars in past decade
Letter published in the Montreal Gazette
Dear Editor;
In 2008, Pierrefonds-Roxboro officials paid almost $25,000 for a parking study by CIMA+ which was then used by council to justify bringing more cars to narrow residential streets of Roxboro, in proximity of schools and a train station.
Study results were unveiled to a full capacity crowd at the Roxboro Chalet one fine spring evening. Then questions were taken from the floor.
Worried parents wanted to ask why council wanted to bring more cars on our streets when kids presently had to walk to school on narrow streets (made even narrower in the winter) with, in some cases, no sidewalks.
I could not believe it when I heard the head of the chair of the meeting (who was also the head of the traffic comittee and public security) shout loudly to the crowd: « We are not here to talk about kids and sidewalks we are here to talk about parking »
Though asked to do so, they never did do a risk analysis prior to deciding to bring more cars or our residential neighbourhood, despite what the transportation and urban plans recommend.
Lewis Poulin

October 18, 2009 – Speeding on residential streets
Letter sent to the borough
Subject to your email Wednesday May 13th, 2009 (copy enclosed) I am curious to know what the City plans to do regarding continual speeding in a 30 kph park and school zone. Today is no exception as I see speeding continue unabated. What were the results of the Nu-Metric measuring plates?

Note: If a response is provided we could also post it here
