19:00 Borough council meeting – register at 18:45 if you want to ask questions to council

Question:

Question:

– Will the borough will make available any documents well in advance of the meeting
– In the past, the borough has often held the budget meeting at 18:30 and then proceeded to adopt the budget at the 19:00 council meeting that same evening.

Questions:

Questions:

– What is our surplus and the documentation supporting this amount?

– How much money does the borough anticipate having to take from the surplus for 2015?

– How much money from the anticipated expenses for 2015 will be made using money approved by council in previous years?

– What is the total of loans residents have to repay?

– What is our total operating deficit?

– For one million in loans, what is the total amount residents will have to pay back when interest is included?

Questions:

According to this article in the West Island Gazette dated Feb. 4, 2014 (click here) « borough managers have been asked to cut expenses by 5 per cent. »

Questions:

– How do the proposed $7 million in debt spending for new projects fit with the requirement to cut expenses by 5% ?

– Please explain why the proposed $7 million in work on municipal buildings, acquisition of furniture, office and computing equipment, etc. referenced by by-laws CA290074 and CA290075 are not financed using the monies from the surplus?

– What is the current size (in dollars) of the budget surplus in pierrefonds accumulated from previous fiscal years?

– Why is the debt spending not done with explicit consent of the citizens (i.e. 51% majority being required to approve such spending)? Will any part of the budget be subject at all to a citizen registration where residents can vote to indicate their approval or not of the budget?
