Videos on efforts to save Meadowbrook

Ajouté par lewis le 2010/06/15

Dear APRPR

Here are two Meadowbrook videos on the evolution of this important greenspace story in Montreal.

The first video is of the April 19th meeting at Montreal City Hall. It gives a good feeling of the ambience that night and the fundamental arguments.

Click here to access this first video.

The second video describes a press conference in Parc Maisonneuve on June 8th 2010 at which the mayor of Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie, Mr. François Croteau, and the mayor of Le Plateau, Mr. Luc Ferrandez, came together to demand that Montreal create a Meadowbrook Park for all montrealers.

Mr. Avrom Shtern questions Mayor of Town of Mount Royal, (TMR), Vera Danyluk regarding AMT locomotive crash and safety measures as well as fire and security issues in the Mount Royal Tunnel.

Answers come from Mayoress Vera Danyluk, City of Montreal Mayor Tremblay and Mayor Dauphin of the Borough of Lachine who is also responsible for Island of Montreal Security.

This video is split into 2 parts.

Interesting to recall also that TMR was designed, planned and built by the Canadian Northern Railway in a similar approach to Washington, DC.

Pierrefonds-Roxboro Residents

(a) The video starts by highlighting how millions of dollars that Montreal had set aside to purchase and protect Montreal’s Green Spaces may now be at risk of not being used to purchase these green spaces.

Residents can help by asking for new money – $41 million over the next 3 years to finance the Natural Spaces Program so that Montreal’s last natural spaces can be saved.

Please write to Mayor Gérald Tremblay and to Executive Committee Vice-chairman Alan DeSousa

(b) The main portion of the video presents the fascinating ideas of Richard Register and the Ecological City.

Some senior citizens in Dollard des Ormeaux would like a little more time to cross Boulevard des Sources. But the Mayor says twenty eight seconds is plenty of time to cross six lanes of traffic.  You can hear the whole story this week on Street Whys.

We return to Dollard des Ormeaux to speak to the police officer who sits on the traffic committee. He says it is possible to adjust the time on the pedestrian countdown clock and that it just might happen.
